The officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhairab Police Station in Kishoreganj, Md Mahbubur Rahman, has been accused of taking a Tk 30,000 bribe through bKash from one side in a land dispute that led to an attack on a house and shops. The OC denies the allegation.
The allegation drew attention locally after a screenshot of the transaction spread on social media, DBC News reported.
The allegation
According to the report, a house and shops in the Kamalpur area of Bhairab town were attacked, vandalised and looted at around 11am on 3 October over a land dispute. The victims allege that police took nearly an hour to arrive after being informed, and stood by once they got there.
It is alleged that Tk 30,000 was sent at 4:12pm the same day from a mobile number used by a member of the attacking side to the OC’s personal bKash number. The circulating screenshot shows the transaction.
One of the victims, freedom fighter Abdul Latif Mia, alleges that the OC refused to record their case. After trying for about a week, they filed a case with a court in Kishoreganj.
The OC’s response
OC Md Mahbubur Rahman told DBC News that although a bKash account is open on that number, he has made no transactions with it and has not seen who sent money to it on 3 October. He called the bribery allegation completely false and baseless.
What senior police say
Bhairab Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Abu Musa Sheikh said they had heard about the bKash transaction. If a specific complaint is filed, an official statement will be obtained from bKash to verify it, and if evidence is found, senior authorities will be informed and legal and administrative action taken.
The allegation has not been proven by any investigation.
